Introducing… SYREBRAL
So today is the launch of the new Cradle2TheRave promotion channel on Youtube! And we’re kicking it off in style with a couple of tracks from Heavy Artillery’s latest signing Syrebral! Not only that, we’ve also got this interview..!
Name, age, location?
‘Brett Halliday, 21, coastal South Australia. But you can call me Syrebral.’
How did you get into music production?
‘I developed an affinity for music production when I picked up a small CD-ROM of music creation / editing programs about 10 years ago. I started writing basic house/trance tracks in Modplug Tracker (involved putting codes in to trigger samples and… well that’s about it, good for chiptunes ^_^) and quickly moved up to Fruityloops (can’t remember which version). Between then and now, I’ve written 3 albums worth of all genres of electronic music that just about nobody will ever hear
But yeah, started taking things far more seriously roughly 3 years ago and I’ve been working up to this ever since. Can’t say that I haven’t had my fair share of pitfalls but you don’t get anywhere by being good at it from day one.’
Which producers influence you?
‘Probably everybody says this at some point or another, but I’m influenced heavily by Noisia, especially earlier works like Subdue, Believe and their collaborative work with Mayhem. ’Moonway Renegade’ is still one of my all-time favourite tracks, not to mention the Messiah remix. Loving the new Noisia releases too, just think it was more about music back then and getting ideas into audio than mixdown quality. In addition to Noisia, I’d have to say I’m madly in love with everything that xKore comes out with, also Tek9, there’s lots of upcoming/current producers that don’t get the spotlight, but damn well should.’
Well that’s what we’re all about here at Cradle2TheRave
What inspires you to create music?
‘I’m inspired by movie soundtracks, by concepts and stories. I don’t always get it right but I start out with an idea in my head and pursue it until it doesn’t work, then I begin to mix ideas. I must say that movies are a massive source of inspiration for me though.’
How would you describe your sound?
‘Ever-evolving. I don’t really make tunes the same as each other, even if they use elements that are alike. I’m working on a brand new concept currently that I’m keeping under wraps, but let’s just say it’s a mood-altering piece of audio ;) I can make robo-coital rapestep if I want to, but unless I’m in that frame of mind, what’s the point of half doing it?’
Which of your tracks is your personal favourite (and why)?
‘My personal favourite at this current time has to be ‘Broken Angels’. It was a progressive step from Hidden Blade, a soul-successor if you will. I love choir, I love heavy drops with insane drumwork and I’ve now fallen in love with swing. That’s Vortek and Tek9′s fault.’
You just got signed to Heavy Artillery, how does it feel to have gotten your first deal?
‘It feels really good, we’ve got a great relationship already and I feel I’m very able to express myself creatively. It’s been a great motivator for me to get working on more projects, working with lots of talented people right now and the results will be more jaw-dropping than anything I’ve come up with prior. Really looking forward to the next month or so.’
What have you been working on recently? Do you have anything due for release soon?
‘Well, HAR and myself have been talking and the first release I’ll make is on a compilation to be announced soon… so keep an ear out for some madness to drop.’
You’re the first producer to be featured on the new Cradle2TheRave promotion channel on Youtube, anything to say to the listeners?

Any shout outs you want to do?
‘My local family, Vortek, Da Bombest, Tekn, Rogue, Knuklz, Rummage, The Dread Vicinity, anybody I forgot to mention apologies
My label family, Faust, Shortee, Captain Panic, Gambit, Arkasia, Grime Syndicate, AtDawnWeRage, Slogun, Nemesis, and of course my lovely fiancee, although I don’t expect her to read this.’
Anything else you want to add?
