Introducing… CAPTAIN PANIC!

I was approached by these guys in early December, back when they were known as PRIME.  They asked if they could do an interview for Cradle2TheRave and after listening to one of their tracks I was like, “TOTALLY!”.  These guys make some awesome music and I’ve been really excited to get this feature out.  It was held up because they had to change their name due to the fact that Prime was already taken (I interviewed Prime last year).  Well anyway, they’re here now and that’s all that matters!

Name, age, location?

‘Andrew McKay, Michael Myers, and we are both 20. We are from a little bit outside of LA in the desert. Not much to do here.’

How did you get into music production?

Michael; ‘I’ve been playing guitar for about 10 years now.  Started pretty young and always tried starting bands here and there but didn’t get into anything successful for a while.  A little bit after high school I joined a band called Sovereign Strength, a hardcore band.  Wrote an album and toured with them and LOVED it.  But different reasons lead me away from the band and I went back to just working a part time job.  Being a trance addict, and a fiend for finding new music, I always was learning of different genres and what not.  My roommate actually got me into dubstep.  After listening a bit, I couldn’t stop finding new music.  Music has always been a part of my life and I always wanted to make it a living, and I knew that DJing alone wouldn’t get me anywhere.  My next step was production and this is where it’s taken me so far!’

Andrew; ‘I got introduced to music at a young age at this performing arts school I attended called The Academy.  I played sax, drums, and violin there.  I can honestly say if it wasn’t for them I would not be writing this right now.  I started out just like every other kid that had a dream to play music.  Ever since I was in middle school I’ve been in some sort of band, (half of them never leaving the garage) and I still am! TheHappyCampersTHC. Really good friends of mine!
I get two totally different feelings when I play EDM and play in my band, its kinda the best of both worlds for me.  It’s just EDM has something that just makes me click, makes the world slow down around me, its a beautiful thing.
Darrel Swann, my track programing teacher at MI, he made it official and clear to me what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.  I can also say I wouldn’t be here either without Mike, thanks buddy!’

This is how it went down, “Hey whats up Mike I’m Andrew!” “Hey nice to meet you!”

“Dude I have a mixer” “Well dude! I have turntables” “Let’s be friends.”

Boom Captain PANIC!

Which producers influence you?

Andrew; ‘There’s such a massive amount of good producers out there right now all of them killing it in there own way, there’s a few tho that have moved me and are forever stuck in my head, their productions are giving you something more than just awesome music to listen to but they give you a certain feeling as well, they got SOUL and I can feel it in mine!!!  First off hands down NERO has always been one of the biggest inspirations to me, when I listen to any of their tracks I’m ready to conquer the world. FLUX PAVILLION, master of the bass, period.  Pendulum with their prodigy KJSAWKA.  And last but not least LTJ BUKEM, changed my life.  I defiitely don’t have enough room to finish this question, there are so so  many artists that influence me its gonna be so hard to just leave it at four!!!’

Michael; ‘Definitely Sean Tyas, Roksonix, 12th Planet, Mat Zo, and Nero right now.  I’m just diggin’ their sound and what they are doing.  Diplo has to be one of my biggest influences though.  His attidude about music and multi-genres is very inspirational, and to top it off he is a super funny dude!  Laidback Luke, for his DJing skills.  But my biggest inspiration  is meeting other producers just starting out like me.  The little guys need to stick together!’

What inspires you to create music?

Andrew; ‘LIFE! EVERYDAY LIFE.  SUNSETS MAINLY FOR ME THOUGH!’

Mike; ‘I really don’t know.  It’s just something that I like to do.’

Which of your tracks is your personal favourite (and why)?

‘I’m not too big of a fan of our currently released tracks, but the new ones in the works are really something special!  But you’ll just have to wait for those :)

What have you been working on recently? Do you have anything due for release soon?

‘We are working on a few originals for a release on Heavy Artillery Recordings coming out in April.  Other than that, a collab with my boys in At Dawn We Rage, GRiMUS, and Audiologic.  All of the collabs are just super fun to be doing and we are STOKED with the way they are coming out.’

Any shout outs?

‘Definitely everyone who has even had the decency to talk or respond to us, whether it be good or bad.  Audiologic for taking us under his wing.  GRiMUS for being a bad ass, CRIMES! for the advice, CID[KID], Miko, ADWR, Shortee and Faust, GAMBIT and to all the blogs that have helped us out.  THANKS BRAINSPILLA!! SUNDANCE, RAVEY DAVEY, THE MONTOYA BROS, and THC.’

Anything else you want to add?

‘We need a manager!!’

This first track from them entitled ‘Screamer’ has a ridiculously brutal drop.  Very impressive to say it was the first original track that they released…  Download it for free here.

Next up is the track that they submitted when they approached me.  I’ve listened to this so many times since it was sent to me..!  You have to respect these guys for their production quality…  Free download here

Lastly we have a remix of Afrojack’s ‘Take over control’ they have done with Audiologic.  This is an absolute banger!  You HAVE to download this… and you can do so for free here.

There are big things to come from these guys so make sure you head over to their Soundcloud and follow them.  Show them some love on Facebook too!
