Introducing – NOYA…
It’s been quite a while since I last posted an interview, I’ve been real busy with all sorts of other stuff, so sorry for the lack of action. Tonight though I bring you an exciting unsigned producer in Noya…
Name, age, location?
‘Adam Noya, 24, Boston – MA.’
How did you get into music production?
‘I started playing drums at the age of 3 and then was guided by my parents to play violin at age 5, and I liked it at first. But man, by the time I was 13 I absolutely did not want to play violin I wanted to play guitar! So I got a Fender Strat and started a hard rock band with some other kids in my middleschool. Well 6 years later that band broke up, (the front-man is now a very talented MC in Boston named Speak Ya Rhyme) and I went to college for sound design where I really learned that I had a talent for Electronic music production. The minute I heard dubstep it was over, I absolutely had to be a part of it since Metal was dead at the time and I needed another badass form of music to latch onto.’
Which producers influence you?
‘If you want to start from the beginning, apparently I was born to Brian Eno, true story. But when I heard Nine Inch Nails (when I was around 8 years old) I began getting really interested in the sounds that came with electronic music. From there on it was Prodigy, the Crystal Method, Juno Reactor, Moby ( know I said the M word but the man was a pioneer). More recently Rusko because of his unique funky flavour, Nero because of their sheer power and magnitude, and Noisia because they are simply the best electronic producers out there in my opinion. They just have it on lock and their execution is damn near flawless. Oh yeah and Hans Zimmer, film and sci-fi play a really big part in my influence.’
What inspires you to create music?
‘That is a good question, it could be literally anything: something I hear on the news, a joke my friends tell, a book I’m reading, a movie, a girl I see on the street, video games, THC, even working out. It all depends on the genre, I currently do House/Trance, Dubstep, DnB, And a Hip-Hop/Dubstep inspired project with my MC: Speak Ya Rhyme – You can hear that here. You can also hear Speak Ya Rhyme’s solo stuff here. It all really depends on what I’m in the mood for.’
Which of your tracks is your personal favourite (and why)?
‘My personal favourite, that varies, but currently it is a tie between 3, simply because these are tracks I feel I outdid myself on technically and in terms of advancing my skill and execution. I also haven’t gotten sick of them for some reason, it’s great hearing your imagination come out of speakers and actually enjoy the shit out of it. The 3 tracks are: ‘Better Done Than Said, ‘Goodbye’ and ‘Globalize’.’
What have you been working on recently? Do you have anything due for release soon?
‘Recently I’ve been working on a bunch of R.S.K tracks, we are working on our next release. Also right now I am working on two of my own tracks because in all honesty, there are always like 5 in production simultaneously and I just release them as I go, depending on which ones I like better. Some people watch sports, others go shopping, I make music: it’s all I ever want to do.’
Any shout outs you want to do?
‘Yeah I’d like to give a shout out to my front man and close friend Jay ( Speak) Lane. A shout out to Atlantic Connection for showing me the ropes and encouraging me to keep on producing. I’d like to shout out to Lindsay Nourse a really talented vocalist out in LA who I still work with, her voice is perfection for me. Definitely a shout out to Jared JSB for having faith in me and the True crew in Boston who host the Drop at the Phoenix Landing, all of them for bringing me in and believing in my music. And of course Sara Newkirk over at William Morris for being my big sis and always telling me to always strive for the top. Much love to all of you.’
Anything else you want to add?
‘I’d like to thank everyone for their support so far, the music will probably stop when I stop breathing… So if we all survive 2012 there probably will be some great tunes. ha ha. Also I’d just like to point out how excited I am that this type of music is bleeding into the mainstream and blowing up. Big things in the future.’

Introducing… FIGURE
I heard one of Figure’s tracks a couple of months ago and after following him for a little while it became clear that this guy is set to be big! His tracks are consistently good and from the previews of forthcoming tunes that I have heard the best is yet to come. I caught up with him on Facebook and grabbed a quick interview…
Name, age, location?
‘Joshua / Figure, 25, Evansville, Indiana.’
How did you get into Music production?
‘I started by making Hip-Hop instrumentals and Turntablism… Got bored and started making electronic music.’
Which Producers influence you?
‘My prodcution influences change daily… I always take pull from really good bands and Music outside of this culture. I love finding young new heads making really good music, that makes me get up earlier and work harder.’
What inspires you to create Music?
‘I get inspired by so many things… From a Movie to a DJ set I hear. I’m ‘that guy’ that makes noises and patterns in my iPhone recorder the moment i get an idea. But I never look in one place for influence , I let it come to me.’
Which of your Tracks is your personal favourite (and why)?
‘My favorite tracks I have made are the Monsters of Drumstep tunes… They are 100% me and they represent a huge step I took in the industry.’
What have you been working on recently? Anything due for release soon?
‘I’ve been working on so many things. A couple secret collabs and projects… but I’m half done with the next Monsters EP, which I’m super excited for… and as always… random freebies and bootlegs to come soon!’
Any shout outs you want to do?
‘Yeah… The main shout out needs to go to my amazing girl, she keeps me grounded and smiling…. and a massive hug towards my manager that is making all of this snowball so well.’
Be sure to check out Figure’s Soundcloud, Twitter and Facebook pages;

Introducing… SLUGZ
This guy caught my eye (and ears) when he posted a link to one of his tracks on Facebook. I checked out his Soundcloud and decided that he was too good to not be featured!
Name, age, location?
‘I started DJing in clubs in 2009, I was playing abroad and around the UK, but I realised production was the key to getting more sets. I wanted to be able to make the tracks I love and put more good music into the scene.’
Which producers influence you?
‘The producers that have influenced me are; Joe London (who I’ve produced a few releases with), Chasing Shadows, Bar 9 and Noisia.’
What inspires you to create music?
‘It’s an amazing feeling to drop a track that you’ve produced at a big club like Matter, Ministry of Sound, The Den (The End), and see everyone go off to it! That is probably the biggest inspiration for me. It’s good at smaller venues too but obviously the bigger the better!’
Which of your tracks is your personal favourite (and why)?
‘My favourite track is between two, I’m not sure. One is called ‘The Journey’, the other ‘Pow Ft. Badness & Dizzle’. Check them out on the Soundcloud and You be the judge. Don’t forget to leave a comment, I want to know what people are thinking.’
What have you been working on recently? Anything due for release soon?
‘Recently I’ve been working on a track called ‘Gun Talk’ it’s gonna be my favourite once it’s finished in answer to the last question too. It is a jump up Dubstep track that turns into Drum & Bass, Jungle, Drumstep, then back to Dubstep. Very Hype.
In terms of releases I’m holding off until the launch of Dub Pack Records. Dub Pack Records is launching very soon so keep your eyes peeled, I’m sure you’ve all heard of the club nights, promotions company. The label’s gonna be big so I’m gonna release my stuff through that.
I do however release Podcasts which you can find on Mixcloud. The majority will be 3 Deck Dubstep Podcasts. I’m getting in special guests each time to add a different vibe.’
Any shout outs?
‘Shout outs to Boyson, Joe London, Muse & Finally my Mum, lol.’ :D
Anything else you want to add?
‘Everyone look forward to the launch of Dub Pack Records! The monthly night launched on the 29th April @ 93 Feet East as well, big up to everyone who came down. Keep showing your faces and lets keep having good parties!’
Remember to check out Slugz on Soundcloud, Twitter and Facebook. Also check out Mixcloud for the Podcasts!
Right, I’ve got Slugz’ 2 favourite tracks for you and 1 that I’ve picked out myself. Kick back and enjoy the bass!
First up, ‘POW’ Featuring Badness and Dizzle
Slugz and Joe London – ‘The Journey’
This next one has to be my personal favourite – Hadouken – ‘Oxygen (Slugz and Joe London Remix)’
Hang tight for interviews with Arkasia and Figure!
Peace.
